Prayer at the working-day’s end

The earth turns and turns and turns,

Light re-angled re-fashions shade

The veil of night moves on and firms.

God; – still point of the turning world

Where past and future gather;

Love itself unmoving, the cause and end of movement.

We turn to you.

Let us be still and know that God is now and God is here.

Let us remember thankfully before God those we have shared this day with.

(pause)

God we thank you for the people  who have been with us and around us today. God of all

Hallowed be your name.

Let’s remember  the activities we can be thankful of today: conversations, correspondence, meetings, chats, planning, making and mending …

(pause)

God, thank you for the doing and stilling,  work and play which have been ours today.

God of life,

Hallowed be your name.

Let us now think about those whom our work touches, near or far; that they may be blessed …

(pause)

God of compassion, grant your peace and love tonight to those we remember

God of all,

hear our prayer.

Let us remember before God the things that we have lacked or noticed need for today

(pause)

 God of our daily bread,

Hear our prayer.

Let us recall and examine any times today when we have felt far from God or weighed down by care …

 God of mercy and grace,

Give us the bread of Life.

Let us think about the times today when we have done ill

or wrongly left undone,

when our words have been harmful

or our silence unloving;

when our attitudes have stirred ungraciousness ….

(pause)

God be merciful to us,

forgive us the wrong we have embodied

as we forgive those who have wronged us.

Amen.

Let’s remember the challenges that we may face in the coming hours

(pause)

God of protection and guidance,

Hear our Prayer.

If there is a reading, it is read here.

God of work and God of rest,

As we pause from our labours.

May we find your peace,

And be refreshed to welcome others

And weave your will with our work.

 Amen
